Experiment: Oxidizing Raw Brass
http://2ifbysea-cristi.blogspot.com/2011/04/experiment-oxidizing-raw-brass.html and http://heatherlydesigns.blogspot.com/2011/03/aging-brass.html
VERY Important, fingerprints have oil, and before placing raw brass in the bowl to fumes, don't forget to wash it thoroughly with warm water and dawn dish soap because the chain sometimes comes with an oily coating from the factory. This will most definitely deter the ammonia from oxidizing the brass. After placing, use a timer, Check every 10 to 15 minutes to see if it is as dark as you like it,then every 5 minute increments after that. You can buff with very fine steel wool to lighten the texture of the leaf or design and edges to stand out!
